COVID-19 and the Dutch hotel industry
The global health crisis created major obstacles for the tourism industry worldwide and the hotel industry in the Netherlands also suffered as a result. For instance, the occupancy rate of hotels in the Netherlands and Amsterdam was significantly lower in 2020 when compared to 2019. Furthermore, the revenue index of the hotel industry in the Netherlands declined from 132.3 in the final quarter of 2019 to 86.4 in the first quarter of 2020. The index fell even further, going as low as 30.6, by the second quarter of 2020, most likely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
