This statistic displays the share of individuals who have taken antibiotics orally such as tablets, powder or syrup in the last 12 months in Italy, as of March 2022. Antibiotics are medications that can kill or hinder the growth of bacteria which cause infections in people and animals. In 2022, 27 percent of respondents in Italy reported that they had taken oral antibiotics in the previous 12 months, this was above the European average at 23 percent. Conversely, 73 percent of respondents in Italy reported that they had not taken oral antibiotics in the previous 12 months, as of March 2022.
