Nuclear energy consumption in Japan 1998-2022
Japan’s nuclear energy consumption reached roughly 470 petajoules in 2022. Japan began shutting down its nuclear fleet following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. In 2014, the country had an output of zero for the first time since 1966 due to the suspended operation of all nuclear power plants.
