Number of permanent private households in Ireland 2022, by tenure
In 2022, about one third of permanent private households in Ireland owned their property outright. The number of households that had no outstanding loan or mortgage for their principal residence was nearly 678,000. This was followed closely by households with outstanding mortgages or loans, numbering over 531,000. Renting is another common form of tenure, with nearly 331,000 households renting the property they occupied from a private landlord.
