In 2022, the average cost per hospital stay of urban and rural resident basic medical insurance program participants in China exceeded 8,100 yuan. With each province having its own standard and rules, treatment quality and reimbursement rates can vary significantly between regions. In general, resident basic medical insurance provides inferior benefits for its participants than employee basic medical insurance, as the latter is partially funded by the employers.
