Illinois was the leading state by number of nuclear reactors in the United States. In 2024, the state had 11 nuclear reactors located in six different nuclear power plants. Pennsylvania and South Carolina followed with eight and seven nuclear reactors, respectively. The remaining U.S. states had five or less nuclear reactors on their territory, for a total of 93 Illinois and Pennsylvania were also the states with the highest generation of nuclear electrical power in the U.S..
