Weekly Central Appalachian coal price in the U.S. 2022-2024
On April 12, 2024, the U.S. Central Appalachian coal price stood at 77.35 U.S. dollars per short ton. This was an increase compared to the previous week and comes amid concerns over global coal supplies as Russia began restricting exports. Nevertheless, figures were still notably lower compared to the previous year, when tighter fossil fuel supplies led to a surge in energy commodity prices. Central Appalachian coal is produced in parts of Eastern Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. In 2022, the annual Central Appalachian coal spot price stood at 157.57 U.S. dollars per metric ton.
