While the Conservatives criticized the Liberals' carbon pricing plan as one that undermined the Canadian economy, Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole announced in mid-April that the party would include a carbon price on consumer fuels in its election platform, which surprised many Canadians. When provided with information on the basic features of each of the Liberal and Conservative carbon pricing plans, slightly more than half of Canadians indicated a preference for the one in place, while just under half backed the Conservative plan.
