Share of illustrated book readers in France in 2020, by age and gender
As of January 2020, the share of young French girls aged 7 to 9 years old who read at least one illustrated book in the last twelve months was just shy of 60 percent. In the meantime, this figure for boys of the same age was around three-quarters. Among people aged 56 to 75 years old, this gap increases by at least 5 percent, as around 30 percent of the men read illustrated books while around 15 percent of the women did so.
