The company serves numerous end markets, with chemicals and energy, manufacturing, and healthcare generating the highest revenues.

Linde plc is one of the leading chemical companies worldwide, as well as the leading company in the industrial gas sector, employing over 65 thousand people and generating a revenue of more than 33 billion U.S. dollars. As of March 2023, Linde's market capitalization reached approximately 175 billion U.S. dollars, the highest among the leading chemical companies worldwide. Other companies operating in the industrial gas market include Air Liquide, Air Products, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso. The revenue of Air Liquide, a multinational company headquartered in France, amounted to some 29.9 billion euros in 2022 (roughly 34 billion U.S. dollars).

Industrial gases are used in a wide range of applications, from oxygen used in the healthcare sector to special gases for electronics manufacturing or hydrogen for clean fuels.
