E-books versus paper books
The love of traditional books is understandable. The smell of paper, the interesting and often decorative covers, and the rustling of paper are something many people love. Poles most often had between 11 and 50 classic books in their homes. However, people are increasingly turning to e-books. This is because books stored in digital form are characterized, among other things, by the ease of purchasing titles of interest, the ability to search the text, interactivity, and the convenience associated with personalization of, for example, the size of the text. Revenue of the e-books market is on an upward trend and is expected to reach nearly 22 million U.S. dollars in 2027. Literary and scientific books accounted for almost 70 percent of all titles published in the country. This may represent the tastes and demands of Polish readers. In 2023, the best-selling book in Poland was Prince Harry's autobiography “Spare,” which sold more than 4,200 copies.In 2022, the most successful Polish author was Anita Głowińska. Other writers listed in the ranking included the crime novelist Remigiusz Mróz, and the fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski, best known for his "The Witcher" series.
While the book industry in Poland is undergoing some major transformations such as presentation or book distribution channels, its digital segments will further develop, thus continuing the writing, publishing, and reading practices in the country.
