Music listening habits in France 2017
The omnipresence of music today
It appears that the proportion of people in France never listening to music reached only two percent in 2017. Thanks to smartphones and mobiles applications, music is now very easily accessible. Services like Deezer and Spotify had an usage rate exceeding 60 percent in 2018 in France. Music is consumed continuously and at any time, especially among the younger generations. In 2017, only 95 percent of French aged 18-24 years old stated that they listened or downloaded music on the internet, while 18 percent of French declared listening to some music before going to bed.
Music in France
If music streaming has grown in France in the past years, the recorded music industry income is experiencing an important decline. In 2017, French music record industry income reached 583 million euros, compared to more than 1.3 billion euros in 2002. French music consumers enjoy various types of music genres like pop, rock and hip hop, but they also listen more and more English or Spanish speaking songs.
