Pattern of AIDS cases
The later stages of HIV are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS in Cyprus reached a peak in 2021, with 94 cases, while only 34 cases were diagnosed in 2022.
European situation
In 2020, the number of new HIV cases among men in Europe reached its lowest figure since 2013. A similar trend can be observed among women. When broken down by age groups, the highest number of HIV cases in 2022, was found between men aged between 30 and 39 years at almost five thousand.
