Market concentration ratio of banks in Benelux 2013-2022, by country
In 2022, the five largest Belgian credit institutions possessed roughly 72 percent of the total assets in the Belgian banking sector. This was a small decrease compared to the 75.7 percent reached in 2021. When compared among each other, Luxembourg had the most diverse banking structure of the three Benelux countries, where 31 percent of the total assets in the banking sector were owned by the five largest credit institutions. The Netherlands had the least diverse banking structure, with 83 percent of all assets concentrated in the top five credit institutions.
