In 2023, the natural increase in central Italy stood at -5.5 per 1,000 inhabitants, whereas this value in the south amounted to -4 over 1,000 residents. In the same year, the nationwide natural increase in population was -4.8 per 1,000 inhabitants. Hence, only the north-east and the south were below the national average.
