Sweden: smartphone penetration 2012-2016
Compared with many nations across Europe, the penetration rate of smartphones in Sweden and other Nordic nations is relatively high. Austria, for example, had a smartphone penetration rate of 54.72 percent in 2015, similar to the 54.65 percent seen in Belgium. The penetration rate sat at 54.93 percent in France, and 57.21 percent in Spain. Sweden's Nordic neighbors; Denmark, Finland, and Norway all showed smartphone penetration rates exceeding 60 percent.
The number of people using smartphones in Sweden is expected to climb in the coming years, reaching 8.4 million people in 2019, an increase of exactly one million people from the levels seen in 2012.
One of the highest penetration rates among any nation and age group can be seen among Germans between 18 and 34 years of age, with 92 percent of people within that category owning a smartphone.
