People involved in motorcycle accidents daily Metro Manila Philippines 2018-2022
Riding a motorcycle is associated with a high risk of getting into an accident. In Metro Manila in the Philippines, about 49 people were involved in a motorcycle-related road crash on average daily as of 2022, a significant increase from the year before. Despite this, the number of people with a motorcycle license has shown year-on-year growth.
Japanese brands reign in the local motorcycle market
The motorcycle market in the Philippines is dominated by four Japanese brands, namely Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki, belonging to the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA). Despite the presence of other motorcycle brands, only the sales and production values of this four-member association are used to represent the entire motorcycle market. The consolidated sales volume of motorcycles and scooters recovered after a significant slump in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the growth rate remains modest in comparison to the pre-pandemic period.
Which region has the highest number of motorcycles?
According to official license registration data, Region IV-A had the highest number of registered motorcycles in the Philippines, followed by NCR-East and NCR-West. Meanwhile, when it comes to tricycles (or motorcycles with a sidecar), the highest number of license registrations were recorded in Region III. Both motorcycles and tricycles can be used for public transportation, but motorcycles are more commonly used for private transportation.
