Leading floods in Europe 1970-2019, by economic damage
In 2002, Germany was hit by the largest flood recorded in Europe in the past half of century, based on economic losses. The flood disaster resulted in roughly 16.5 billion U.S. dollars worth of economic damage. It broke the record previously held by floods in Italy in 1994, with economic losses also above 16 billion dollars.
