Different car types' popularity among potential buyers SEA 2021, by country and type

In a survey conducted in September 2021 asking Southeast Asians of legal driving age which car type they would consider for their next purchase, combustible-engine cars fueled by petrol or gas were the most popular choice in Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. In Thailand, 56 percent of respondents considered buying an electric car, while 61 percent of respondents from Singapore voiced interest in hybrid cars.
