In 2021, the volume of civil liability insurance premiums in France exceeded four billion euros for the first time. In 2010, this figure was just shy of three and a half billion euros and reached 4.3 billion euros just 11 years later. Civil liability insurance, or responsabilité civile générale, is mandatory under French law and covers damage to another person or their property.
