per capita food-related emissions in Asia were notably lower than in other regions such as Oceania and North America, where GHG emissions related to food averaged 8.2 and 5.2 metric tons per capita, respectively.
It is estimated that global food-related greenhouse gas emissions totaled 18 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2015, which was an increase of approximately two billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent relative to 1990. The region with the highest food-related emissions in 2015 was Asia, which contributed 7.1 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. This was roughly 39 percent of of global food emissions. However, Food-related emissions worldwide in 1990 and 2015, by region (in billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent)
