Share of people engaged in panic buying due to COVID-19 Japan 2020, by age
Rakuten Insight in April 2020 on panic buying after the coronavirus outbreak, around 21 percent of Japanese respondents aged between 25 to 34 years old stated that they engaged in panic buying because of the coronavirus pandemic, while the share was much lower among respondents from other age groups. In the same survey, the majority of respondents who engaged in panic buying indicated that they stocked up on dry food items such as rice, noodles, pasta, and flour, or hygiene paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues.
