Insurance in France: breakdown of subscriptions by type of coverage 2019

In 2019, home insurance was the most purchased type of insurance in France with 85 percent of subscription rate. Car insurance and health insurance were the second and third most purchased types of insurance coverages, with 75 percent and 59 percent subscription rate respectively.

The French insurance industry

The insurance industry is a continuously growing market in France, which revenue is expected to reach 385.24 billion U.S dollars by 2023. In 2018, the industry had a workforce of over 147 thousands employees in France and had a total of 628 admitted insurance companies. Property and liability represents an important segment of the insurance market, with a premium value of 163.4 billion euros in 2018, compared to 56.1 billion euros contributions for personal insurances.

Property and liability insurance includes various types of coverage such as motor, home and civil liability insurances. In 2018, property and liability insurance in France had a premium value of 35.5 billion euros for individual subscriptions and 20.6 billion euros for professional subscriptions. That same year, over 56 percent of property and liability insurance premiums from personal subscriptions were for motor insurance.
